    Windows 7 Wireless Woes

    Hello, I have:

    - 2 desktop PCs (1 wired, 1 wireless)
    Wired: Win7 x64
    Wireless: Win7 x64 (Realtek 8185L)*
    - a Netgear WGR614v5 router

The router connects to a DSL modem for internet. My wired PC was upgraded from WinXP to Win7 a few months ago and has been perfectly fine. But when I upgraded the wireless PC (using a Trendnet 802.11b/g card w/ Realtek 8185L chipset), I have not been able to get on the internet.

Strangely, the internet SOMETIMES WORKS for 15-30 SECONDS when I first boot and I can open a few webpages, but then the connection just halts. It would say "connected" and "internet access" available in the Network & Sharing Center, but no website can be loaded. Also, it sometimes say "unrecognized network", or "no internet access", although it always connect to the wireless network with 4-5 green bars. It may randomly connect for another 10-15 seconds after an hour or two if I keep reconnecting or resetting the adapter.

The variability in the connectivity makes this super hard to troubleshoot.
I guess it's either a problem with the router or wireless card's compatibility with Win7 x64 (I have a WinXP laptop that connects fine wirelessly with the router too). Any thoughts as to where the problem is?

    Things I've tried:
    - turning homegroup on OR off
    - updating WGR614 router firmware
    - reinstalling R8185L adapter driver (newest Win7 64bit driver)
    - setting static IP

Please help. It's been 3 days without any progress... The last option is to buy a new router AND a new wireless card.

This adaptor, the realtek R8185L is a bit problematic with Windows 7 unless you get the most recent driver from realtek. When you set up the router use WPA2 AES only not mixed.

It's the third one down on the list version 1122.

This should get you up and running. If not come back and post a screen shot of your ipconfig /all
