Windows 7 64 bit knocks out internet after updates.

I don't know which specific updated but I managed to isolate the problem to my updates. 1st let me say that I went from Windows 32 bit to Windows 64 bit using custom install and keeping Windows.old. Afterwords I went to install all updates and after everything was finished I noticed that my internet could only have limited access to my router. I tried everthing, disabling/re-enabling, deleting drivers and putting them back on, putting the router into another slot on my mobo- nothing worked until I restored my computer back before I installed any updates.

After I did that I put back on the drivers and the internet worked again and my network could be fully accessed. At 1st I assumed it was realtek drivers that windows update had me downloading so I blocked those from being updated and I updated again...it blocked my network again.

So my question to you guys is: Is there a specific known windows update that is notorious for blocking networks from being fully accessed? What do you recommend I do?

When you figure out which update is causing the problem please report it back in here.

This problem has come up countless times in the last few months but I havn't been able to figure out which update is causing the problem. I can't test this myself as I do not have the problem.

This used to happen here...not quite sure why it doesn't anymore, but I had 2 workarounds, the 1st of which was the easiest, but didn't always work:

a] Control Panel\Network and Sharing Center
b] on the left pane, click Change Adapter Settings
c] Right click on the problem connection
d] Choose 'disable'
e] wait 30 seconds, right click and re-enable.

a] Shutdown system(s)
b] Unplug power from modem, router and/or network switches
c] Wait 30 seconds, plug in modem, wait for complete powerup routine, plug in router, wait for P.U. routine, same for any other devices
d} Boot machine.

Again, I'm not sure why I no longer have this issue, it just went away, but more often than not, method 1 worked and took very little time (certainly much less than #1...)

It isn't the router's fault it HAS to be my wireless card. I have a WMP54G 4.1 BTW, I deleted all updates from my computer and restarted and it STILL couldn't connect. Is it my wireless card? Is it not compatible with 64 bit Win7? Why does it work at the beginning but stops after updates? Are there any 64-bit drivers for this card?

I'm not sure which wireless card were talking about here?

Try running this batch file which will reset winsock, reset the TCP/IP stack and release renew your IP.

Download Renew IP + Reset Winsock Batch File

After that please post a screen shot of your ipconfig /all from your command prompt. :)

How do I use that?

bump someone help please. This is litterally making me sick to my stomache. I'm so stressed over this its CRAZY.

I reinstalled Windows 7 64 again, like I predicted, the internet is back up. I haven't ran the updates though out of fear.

Install your updates as per Tews' post. When you find out which one it is, uninstall that update or perform a system restore preceding that update. If there are anymore updates, install them (again, one at a time), checking your internet connection after each one.

Take note of the faulty update's name. If it's an important update, you can investigate.
