    DNS server not responding

    Hi all,

I currently have a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Internet works fine at my home, but I am currently at my partner's parents house and cannot use my laptop to connect to Internet.

When my laptop is off, all other computers and laptops can connect to the network and to the Internet fine. As soon as I turn my computer on, I am able to connect to the network as are the other computers in the house. However, when my laptop is on, I receive a DNS server is not responding error msg on my computer. The strange thing is that all other computers on the network also start receiving DNS server error messages and no one is able to connect to the internet.

It is only at this house that I have any trouble with my laptop. Everything works fine at my house and we have the same Wireless router in both houses (Linksys Advanced N Home Router). I have tried pushing the reset button on the Wireless Router at this house but nothing changed.

We've called some other IT friends for advice but no one has any idea why turning my laptop on would crash the DNS Servers for all computers connected to the network. HELP?

You may be having a problem with the firewall or Anti-virus program running on the computer.

Try flushing the DNS cache to see if that helps
Open a command prompt, run as Administrator by right clicking.... type ipconfig /flushdns press 'enter'

Have you tried to disable the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter? It tends to cause DNS problems.

Windows 7 DNS server not responding

If you used a static DNS in your IPV4 properties it can also cause problems as Lemur mentioned. It's best to type the preferred DNS into your routers DNS server properties.
