Cannot Establish RDP to XP PC Until After Local Logon is Established

I am trying to establish an RDP connection from my Windows 7 Pro x64 computer to another that is running Windows XP Pro SP3. I can establish the RDP connection successfully if the XP computer has already been logged on locally, but I want to establish the RDP without having to do the local logon first.

The Windows 7 PC is connected to a Linksys WRT400N router via cable. The XP PC is connected via wireless using a Linksys WMP600N PCI card. Both are on the same workgroup.

Any thoughts on what to try?

    i assume you're using mstsc.exe, right?

if youre using RDC, what error do you get (if any)? can you describe exactly what you do and exactly what occurs that leads you to the conclusion that you can't establish a connection without first having logged on locally?

Sorry for the delay; I ended up swapping OS hard drives and doing a reload. Since then, I can connect to the XP PC by ip address, so the issue is now solved.
