The wired network adapter is experiencing problems
Hello! I searched for this but was unable to find this issue (please help me refine my search if I am incorrect).
Backstory: About a month ago my PC lost connectivity with my router. It is connected via Ethernet cable to the Linksys WRT54G. All other wireless devices (both iPhones, PS3, Wii, the wife's Macbook, and my old HP laptop) have not lost connectivity.
Attempted fixes:
Confirmed Ethernet cables not suspect, bought and installed a new Dynex NIC to check and it had the same issue. Green lights on both cards and router were lit correctly. Wife's Macbook connects to Ethernet port on router with no problems (my HP laptop did not connect via ethernet but I put that down to the laptop being old.)
The PC's Network diagnostics just tells me "there might be a problem with the driver with the Local Area Connection adapter". Device Manager shows the Network adapter (Intel(R) 82578DC Gigabit Network Connection) to be running properly.
I went searching for a driver and on Intel's site found and downloaded PROWinx64.exe to my laptop and transferred it to the PC via USB flashdrive. Installed it and have new features on it's properties in Device Manager but still on connection. Uninstalled and then installed an older version of PROWinx64.exe form Intel's website and same problem.
ipconfig /all shows Media Disconnected
Thank you for any help or new directions to go.
