Allowing COPY but not CUT when sharing.

    Hi,

I've just networked my childrens' 4 laptops up with my compter using the Windows 7 Network and Sharing Centre.
I am fairly new to any kind of networking, so I was wondering if it was possible to do restrict their abilities to CUT files from my folders and allow them to only COPY them to their computers.

The folders in question are Photos and Music, and I'd prefer not to have them accidentally cut the files from my folder, thereby sending them off into thier filing systems (= oblivion)

    Thanks

hi.. you can use sharing..after sharing successful, you can manage that's folder that's you want to share with other workstation, example like photos folder..you can manage that's the client just can copy..from security tab. you can give permissions, like full access, read, modify and etc.

    Hi,

    Thanks
I selected Read and that did what I wanted.
I didn't think selecting only Read would allow them to COPY and paste, but it did.
And it won't allow cut & paste - comes up with 'you don't have permission'

:) thnaks for your help - problem solved

    Tip
Just remember what you did if you decide to change it back.

I usually right down tweaks I've done and hide it with the Windows disk.

Three months from now I'm going what did I do?????

    Thanks
I usually find most of my tweaks here and save the links :)
Little things when Iget a new OS like Win 7, such as hot to google search from the address bar.
This one was pretty basic, just in an area I haven't been in before, and before I let my kids delete all my files I thought I should ask the pros rather than guess. :)
