Computer does not automatically connect to internet at startup
For the last couple days one of our two computers does not connect to internet when it is first started. There is a simple band aid, which is to disable the on-board network adapter then enable again, which triggers internet connection which then stays connected until the computer is turned off. So not an emergency, but I'd like to fix it.
Any ideas what could cause the problem?

Both computers are connected to a standard 5 port router/switch which is connected to broadband modem - in our case point-to-point wireless using 802.11b (we are too far from town for cable or dsl.) Only one computer is affected so that suggests that the problem is not in the router or modem/radio unit. When the one with the problem is turned on and shows no internet connection, I can open the gui interface to the router and get a ping from the router but not the modem/radio.
I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling the network adapter driver, which seemed to work when I tested right after, but problem was back this morning.
The only thing in the event log is a 1014 reporting a timeout trying to resolve the router name because the DNS servers failed to respond. This seems nore like a result than a cause of no connection. DNS server addresses are stored in the modem/radio which has a static IP address. Adapter and router are set to obtain ip address automatically.
