If unsuccessful perhaps, it's time for sfc /scannow.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If that didn't help, a Repair Install.
Repair Install
When I started the reinstall, it told me that it was already installed, and that I'd need to remove the old version before installing the new version. That's a plus, since that gets rid of all the old files I couldn't find by searching manually.

Reinstall successful.

szthesquid - Are you able to do these things now?
  • Create or join a homegroup
  • Stream media to an XBox 360
  • Change network security settings (home/private/public)
  • Pass Ubisoft DRM checks for a network connection

No, because Windows still doesn't acknowledge a network connection. Status is still completely unchanged since my original post.

SFC/SCANNOW didn't detect any errors, and I didn't get an install disc with my computer. Is there a way to create one? I remember it prompting me to create a recovery disc when I got the computer, but that's not the same thing.

Is it possible to borrow one from a close friend? You will need the actual O/S CD/DVD.

Maybe, but even if I can, it'll take some time. Are there any other options?

I have a friend who has the Ultimate version, but I have Home Premium. Will that work, or do I need the same install disc as the version that's currently installed?

I never managed to get this problem resolved, and as you can see it's been almost a year since this thread was originally posted. I have a laptop with an OEM install so I cannot use a retail disc to do a repair install.

Is there any other possible solution?

Windows thinks three displays are still connected.
I have three GTX980's and three Dell 27" displays. Each card is connected to one display by way of a DVI cable. I removed one card so I can run benchmarks with 2-way SLI (I was bored). The center display is connected to the first card (in slot PE1) with a DVI cable, the second card had no...

Hey everyone, having a bit of an odd situation. The wireless network icon is showing a red cross, normally meaning that there is an issue with a network that you're trying to connect to. However, I am connected perfectly and 100%! In the Network and Sharing Centre it shows issues and when I...
