    afd.sys Blue Screen

    Hi guys,

I need a little bit of help here. I just installed Windows 7 64-bit last night, and the installation went without a hitch. I started to install my programs and then things started to get a little hairy. Every once in a while (ranging 3 minutes - 3 hours) my computer will blue screen out with a mention of afd.sys. This usually happens when I try to do something with the network (ex: Skype, Trillian, etc.). I'm too new to this to know how to read minidumps, so I thought I'd give them to you guys and see how you could help me. I'm up for any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Reformatting is not an issue, as I have time to spare (when I'm not at work). My system specs are up to date in my profile.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer, as I'd really like to get this issue solved.

    Sincerely,

    John (riott)

Hi john and welcome to sevenforums.
Really nice first post. Afd.sys is a nic driver issue.
first I would suggest updating your nic driver.
I titled this BSOD so the people who are really good at reading dumps (not me)will spot it.
You could give us info abt networking, and sleep hibernate as they both can cause this.

Hope this helps in the mean time

Thanks Ken. :) Looks like a great community to be a part of.

As you suggested, I re-installed the lastest driver. The Action Center just told me, as I was downloading the driver, that there was a known issue with the Ethernet controller. Hopefully this will work. I'll try doing some network-intensive work in the meantime to see how it holds up.

    John

EDIT: So far, there hasn't been another blue-screen. I guess we can classify this problem as solved. I can't believe I overlooked the simple solution. Thanks again, Ken!
