    Awful wireless network connection


    Hi, I'm new here. I filled in all my system specs when registering, I suppose you can find those in my profile or something, otherwise let me know how to share them.

    My brand new home-built windows 7 PC has been running perfectly in every aspect for the last couple of days, with the exception of the wireless networks. I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 issue or if I just bought a horrible adapter, but I'm guessing it's the first, because:

    -My laptop has reasonable reception, that is to say the connection doesn't drop out and the download speeds are okay.
    -My laptop finds way more networks, all the way to neighbours living a couple houses further away.
    -My laptop has a built-in WLAN adapter without an antenna, I figure any card with one should at least have equal if not better reception.

    When I try to connect to my wireless network, it usually shows only one network from my next-door neighbour, it sometimes shows my home network (3 bars reception usually) but doesn't connect, and very very rarely it shows my home network and lets me connect. When I have network connection I also have internet connection, albeit so terribly slow working with it is absolutely impossible.

    I've first installed the drivers for the WLAn adapter that came bundled with it, then tried downloading them on another pc and installing them from USB drive but windows said I already had the most up-to-date version... Installed anyway and still no difference. There are no Windows 7 drivers yet so I went with Vista 32-bit (I have windows 7 32-bit).

    I've already ordered a new (linksys) WLAN adapter because I feel that's probably the quickest way to find out if it's the adapter or windows 7 causing the problems.

    EDIT - Just saw where you can see my system specs and noticed my WLAN adapter isn't there which is pretty relevant so it's the ASUS WL-138gE

    Hello LeBon, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums! Nice job on your system specs, btw. You are appreciated.

    There are so many variables that can cause issues with wireless. Even location can cause problems with wireless signals. We will try to help you sort it out.

    It might help us if you could capture some screen shots of some of your settings, like:
