    Network Map Question

    Hi,

I'm busy adding a NAS to my network - no trouble so far. When I view the Network Map, I can see my two PC's (one connects wirelessly) and my router. The NAS, however, is shown as "cannot be placed in the map" (see image below).

What prevents a discovered device from being placed in the map, and how can I remedy this if possible?

    Thanks,
    Golden

Did it prompt for network catagorization? Ie: Work/Public/home?

Network map uses LLTD for mapping, if your NAS device doesn't support LLTD it won't show up.

    Hi Brady,

Nope it didn't prompt me for anything like that. I know that in the NAS configuration utility I can enable for example Bonjour, uPnP etc. which is disabled at the moment, but I haven't seen an LLTD option yet. This is my first foray into the network side, so I don't know too much about this.

If you don't see LLTD in options, it may not be supported, thus you won't see it in network map. Is it performing as intended?

Can you link me your NAS device?

    Hey,

Yep - its working perfectly - no trouble at all. I was just curious about the map thing.

Here is the NAS : http://www.thecus.com/product.php?PROD_ID=25

Still got to do the firmware upgrade, but it doesn't mention LLTD.

No worries - I learnt soemthing new today : if you want it to show under the map it must support LLTD.

LLTD is included in Windows Vista and Windows 7. It is used by their Network Map feature to display a graphical representation of the local area network (LAN) or wireless LAN (WLAN), to which the computer is connected
    Link Layer Topology Discovery

    Thanks again.
