"No Connections Available"
This is an on going issue. I have cut and pasted my original post from September 2010. It has not gone away no matter what I do or have tried.
Hi all, this is a real PITA 4me so forgive me 4 the ingnorance, I did a fresh install of Windows 7 64 and set the network to "home" and set the preferances. I continued the hardware/software updates and to my surprise I was now on a "public" profile. I want the "home" profile due to streaming media.
This is the exact problem i am having.
Also i checked and restarted my network in Windows Explorer and i can see all the computers connected to my router/cable modem including a XP box, and the mapped drives stay connected but I still get the message "This computer is not connected to a network. Click to connect..." This also brings up the small window in the bottom right that says "Not Connected - No Connections are available."

- My current profile is set to public
- i need to change my current profile to home/work
- I go into network and sharing center
- Under "View Your Active Networks" i see "You are not currently connected to any networks."
- I select "Connect to a network"
- This pops up a small window in the bottom right of the screen that should have a list of connections and tells me check the network and sharing.
- Instead i get "Not Connected - No Connections are available."
I dont know what is wrong but I have removed my Anti Virus software and restarted the router and did another fresh install to no avail. I wrote down the exact order in which I installed the drivers/programs along with leaving the UAC set to hi so I could catch it. Nope. I installed Nero and restarted and whala, on a public network after 20 mins of being on home.
Any Ideas?
Since then I have uninstalled the broadcom on board nic and installed an older intel pro 1000 mt ( i dont use wireless for main systems only laptops), which win7 has built in drivers thus not allowing updates (to force people to spend more money unnessasarlly) along with a new 400 gb hdd, fresh install with immediate disableing of the windows firewall and defender to determine if it was actually due to the firewall (use norton 360, not installed yet) and I still, after all updates and upon rebooting the system I am imediatly "disconnected" from the network (linksys wrt600-n router w latest firmware). I then get in the bottom corrner the message "not connected to network". Over the months I have have had the system disconnect at just about every program install/reboot/update (software or drivers) and have determined it is the os for sure. I got the system running long enough to make a back up image so that I can restore it when needed. Which is about once a week and is now beyound my frustration level. To further those issues when it does stay connected to the "network" when I copy small or large files it will only trans fer on a gig network at now, 693kb a second! At the begining it was transfering a smoking 55mb a second. Then I installed the MS updates and it dropped to 43mb a second. In 4-5 days it dropped for no reason to 33mb a second. in 4-5 more days 22mbs second, the following day after start up 18mbs a sec, then 9, then 6 then 3 then 1.5 to finnally 693kb a sec. This has also been consistant. I do not run anything intensive on my network and when I transfer my files I do not use the systems until the transfer is complet. I also installed win7 32 on 2 of my older p4 systems to replicate the issue. None there so that means its a 64 bit issue. I have since then followed the advise on may pages about disabling rpc, ipv6, and the registry "throttling bandwidth". NONE have any efect at all, even when I change the adaptor settings. It still remains the same. Now I am reinstalling the image after every shut down and cant copy any files due to the transfer speed of 693KB a sec. So what did MS do to the networking? I never had these issues on my XP Pro, which incidently was installed prior to me installing the win7.
