i REALLY don't think its the adapter. if it helps anyone, i always fix the connection by flushing the dns and renewing the IP. but it always goes back out after a few minutes. is there a setting i could fix to make that unnecessary?

if this helps at all, usually doing a DNS flush and renewing my IP will help for awhile. then it goes bad again. is there a setting involving those things that i could change that may help?

Does your connectivity itself drop away, or does it just quit working?

And I would check the settings on your router/modem versus what your ISP recommends, and see if they line up. It sounds like the problem is your router.

it just says "no network access"...however here's the newest development...

out of curiosity i saw there was another ssid i could connect to that was unsecured that had a fairly strong signal, so i connected to it to see if it'd work, and it does. when connected to the other network that isn't mine i have no issues at all. everything runs perfectly. but i know i can't just connect on that one because i don't want to slow down anyone else's connection by piggy backing on their wifi so obviously i still need to fix mine.

anyway, i clicked the connection and went to status, then clicked details to see what differences there were. on the connection that isn't mine but works the IPv4 default gateway, IPv4 DHCP server, and the IPv4 DNS server were all the same IP. on my connection that fails the IPv4 DNS server has 2 ip's and although the two ip's are the same, they are different from the default gateway and DHCP server. could this be whats causing my dilemma?

ok so i've figured out the problem is definitely the ip conflict. i changed the IP's, however now it has disabled DHCP, which i thought was supposed to be enabled. so will i be alright without having DHCP enabled, and if not, how would one go about enabling it?

one last post here real quick, i'm pretty sure i solved the issue, and thought i would let the community know in case it ever helps anyone else.

the computer hooked up to the router was having a lot of issues, and since i almost always do this on any computer with problems, i uninstalled Norton Security Suite. in my experience norton is always causing a problem of some sort...

i had noticed i could only connect to the internet through IE8 XD and also i couldn't update anything (literally anything that updates wouldn't connect)

after uninstalling norton and detecting a trojan (which i'm still not sure whether it was a virus or a false positive but i removed it nonetheless) everything seems to be running ok now. so far my wireless connection hasn't dropped or slowed down any so i'm assuming the culprit was Norton XD. anyway, just thought i'd share what the issue was. thanks to all for your advice and help

oh sweet irony...my connection just dropped out again XD problem not fixed but oh well. if i discover any other possible solution i'll wait a few days to make sure its actually fixed, then i'll post what worked heh. wish me luck XD

EDIT: i may have jumped the gun on this one...my connection is still staying strong despite that one inconvenience so if it turns out something is still messed up, i'll post again, otherwise i'll let this topic finally die.
