Networking at home

I have two machines - desktop and laptop I have the TP-Link WD8960n router / modem wireless disabled but would still like to "interact" between the two - using the one printer transferring files to each other etc.

Desktp had Home and laptop has Pro can I just link them throught the router or a straight cable without creating too much havoc between the two machines?

Sorry but am not terribly savvy re this (or much else) but it would be easier tha putting files onto a USB and transferring stuff that way.

If they are all connected to the router via ethernet cables, they should all be able to communicate. If they're all running Windows 7, check out this link for setting up a homegroup:

Both of your computers are connected to same router, and running Windows 7. That's all you need to create a Homegroup, the easiest way to let computers to interact.

Take some time, make a pot of coffee and read these articles and tutorials, and you'll notice it's not so difficult More Homegroup related tutorials can be found in our Tutorials section. Come back if you have more questions.

Happy networking!
