Quickest way would probably be to just use system restore.
If you can't access the start menu, you can ctl alt del and use the run feature in the task manager. (file -> run) Start System Restore from a command prompt

I was trying to change the system tray icons by changing the .dll and somehow the battery, sound, network icons are not showing. I've tried to replace the .dll files but it didn't work.
