DHCP Service Needed?

Depending on your use and configuration you may be able to do without but why would you want to?
DHCP is not required as long as you have all the relevant information entered in your network configuration.
Some people choose to disable DHCP on their wireless networks as an additional safeguard against unauthorized use.
I think in this case, the user is trying to increase performance on his local PC, but disabling a possibly unneeded service (DHCP Service). He did state that DHCP is disabled on his router (so this covers the security concern of unknown boxes gaining and IP to your network).
I'm not sure you would gain much, if anything, measurable from turning off the DHCP Service on the local machine.

Just to get rid of one more piece of unneeded junk...
It doesn't matter if I see a difference in my computer's performance.
What matters is that I know it has one less thing to do.
That makes me happy.
I'm a bit anal-retentive, I guess...
