Static IP on wired and wireless adapter simultaneously
I want 2 static IP's, one for my wired and one for my wireless, and they connect through the same gateway (although I am not using them simultaneously). I use the following:
Wired:
10.0.0.4
255.255.255.0
10.0.0.1
Wireless:
10.0.0.5
255.255.255.0
10.0.0.1
If I try to change it from the ipv4 screen I get the attached error pop up screen, but if I change it through the advanced screen, I don't get the error but it automatically deletes the gateway from my other adapter! The big issue is, if I don't have the gateway in the adapter settings, I get an "Unidentified Network" in my "Network Connections" page and I cannot connect to the internet using the adapter that does not have the gateway.
I have searched every forum but have not found any resolution. Is this error just a false warning and not an error since I don't have multiple gateways? Maybe Win 7, by default, just throws that screen up if it detects 2 NIC's with an entry in the "Default Gateway" but doesn't really compare the 2 entries. Does Win 7 not see that UI have entered the same IP in both fields or does it just say "WHOA, you already have a Gateway entered in another adapter, I am not sure what that IP address is, but be careful because you shouldn't have multiple Gateways on the same network." Or is it saying "STOP, I will not function properly if you have 2 Gateways, even if they are the same IP."
