    Default gateway KEEPS DROPPING

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, running on a Dell. I purchased this computer back in February 2010, and the internet HAS ALWAYS been wired directly to the router. All of my networking and internet was constant until January 2011, when I switched from Comcast to Verizon (big mistake), as soon as Verizon routers were installed in my house, my computer (only this computer, not my laptop or my Xbox 360) kept losing internet connection, and I had to either unplug and plug in my ethernet cable, or troubleshoot and repair my default gateway. Well I switched back to Comcast again, and this problem is still standing. Every 6 hours or so it happens. I have tried everything involving disabling IPv6 and resetting my winsock in command prompt.

So this must be a compatibility problem with my computer and the comcast router, right? The router is a Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router, WNR1000v2.

I have a wired connection, so it is nothing involving wireless problems. Please help

Welcome the the forum. First thing I would tryis reset the router. There should be a little hole in the back panel, use a paper clip to push in and hold. Use Netgears instructions to reset the router.

Before you go reseting your router and possibly messing up some settings with your ISP. And toss an ipconfig of your wired computer up.

Check your DHCP leases - both the ones you get from your provider and the settings in your router.

If the above suggestions don't seem to solve the problem. You can always manually give your computer the IP address. I am assuming what is in your system specs, Dell Studio (Desktop) computer. If this is a laptop computer I would keep DHCP alone because you could move around and try to use other networks.

With a desktop its not that mobile so disabling DHCP would work.

To set up the IP address manually you first need to know your default gateway IP address and subnet mask. This tutorial should give us the correct information either option should work.

Upload a screenshot or let us know the defualt gateway and subnet mask. To help you out follow this tutorial on how to upload files and screenshots on this forum. Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

    Hope this Helps,

If you use the computer in different settings, I'd seriously recommend this software:

Thank you for the replies. I reset my router and that did not work, and I also gave my computer the IP address manually about a month ago and it's still happening.

To sordid, who said - "Check your DHCP leases - both the ones you get from your provider and the settings in your router."

How do I do this? I don't know what a DHCP is, so please explain or send me a link on how to do this. Thank you.

Your ISP DHCP Lease information will be on the Status Page.. where it will show the IP address coming from the ISP, along with Subnet, gateway, dns....

Your Router's DHCP lease information is on the page where you configure your DHCP information. Usually one of the first pages or the LAN configuration page.

There you go, and by the way, yesterday I went out to the store and bought a wireless USB Network Adapter, and now it's in and working. And I'm also still wired through ethernet cable, so maybe that will provide a precaution that will stop it from dropping.
