Yeah, if you're using usernames and passwords, you need password sharing On.

If password sharing is Off then you would need to edit the drive permissions and allow the "Everyone" group access.

It's why you get Access Denied even though Microsoft says you're supposed to be able to access the shared drive or folder. :\

yeah password protected sharing is what I meant, sorry.

On the win7 computer, you need to login to the account you created on the vista computer.

Or from the win7 computer you can Map the shared drive using those same credentials.

Or you can turn off password protected sharing and right-click on E: drive goto Security Advanced and add the "Everyone" group with inherited permissions.

Or you can enable the Guest account.

I will have to write a guide on this someday because sometimes I think I'm the only one that understands it.

Is there a step by step procedure how to Network & Share Vista & 7?

    Hello

I tried to get help from Dell how to get our two dell computers
linked to the same router to be able to talk and share the
    resources with each other

from our Vista computer I can log on to the 7 notebook
and I have setup sharing on both computers so it works
but only if I am on the Vista computer

I did read about not setting up a Homegroup on 7, I think
    I might have ...

anyway there must be either a person who knows the exact
steps or there is a procedure step by step to follow how
to have both computers able to see each other -

the Vista computer doesn't have a password or login
so not sure if that is a problem

I don't visit this forum much so if someone has pity on
a newbie, I would be forever grateful

I am sure I am just missing one or two steps on
    the 7 computer/notebook

    thank you very much
