OK, just built 2 Windows 7 64-bit boxes with the 7000 beta build. One is a desktop, the other a laptop. I connect wirelessly with my laptop, create the network and tag it as a 'Home Network'. Connect over the LAN with the desktop. When I try to create a Homegroup from the laptop, it errors saying I must be part of a 'Home Network' to join/create a Homegroup. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this?
Yes, but that doesn't really matter until I try to join the desktop, main issue is that I can't create a Homegroup from the laptop, nor join a Homegroup from the laptop because it thinks it's on something other than a Home Network, although it's not, at least it shows it set to Home Network.
If you have created a homegroup on your desktop, you won't be able to create another homegroup on the same network on your laptop. One PC must create the homegroup , and the others to join..
Also, see if you have any other network adapters installed on your system and what is their state...In different adapters, you might have different network types...home network on one adapter, public network on another etc...
Understood. I did not create a Homegroup on the desktop, so at this point I have zero Homegroups. I did try to create one from the desktop after the one from the laptop failed, but it fails with the same message, weird. On the desktop I just have the LAN connection, that is setup as a Home network. The laptop has a LAN connection, but it has been disabled, only the wireless card is active as far as network connections go. Looks like I may have to reload both. I renamed the workgroup, I'm beginning to think there may be a bug that is related to changing the workgroup name and Homegroups.

also ive been poking around and i am also seeing that disabling IPv6 has the same behavior...
(thats interesting about the workgroup changes....

Yes, both are setup as Home Networks. No VMware installed on either. I did disable IPv6, I'll look at that and see if that has anything to do with it.
I have not updated any drivers, I am using what came with the Windows 7 load.
SOB... After re-enabling IPv6, I can now create a home group. That doesn't make sense, but it fixed the issue at hand. Thanks!
I keep having homegroup issues too....
I also have a laptop and a desktop.
When I create a homegroup on the desktop, the laptop sees it, but it fails to connect with a timeout and an errorcode.
When I delete the desktop homegroup and create one on the laptop, my laptop creates it, but the desktop doesn't see it, and so it gives me the option to create another!
I'm searching on it right now...I'm decided to find a solution to this.
