Response time on heavy communication is much slower than under XP
Hi,
I'm developping a GUI application that communicates with an electronic device through Ethernet. Basically the communication are strings through a telnet channel. We have some performance issue under Win7 (x86 and x64) and therefore we did some measurements. We send the same command to the device repeatly (500 times) and we measure the time from the sending until we received the answer back:
This is a significant difference and we have real problems with this. I have Virtual Box intsalled on the Win7 machine, and when launching a VM in Virtual Box, the time is going down to 8.5 ms as well (under Win7 with a VM running). I tried to uninstall completely Virtual Box - it remains around 14ms - I suspected the network driver from VirtualBox.
- XP SP3 x86: average time on 500 tries, 8.5 ms
- Win 7 SP1 x64: average time on 500 tries, 14 ms
It seems that launching a Virtual Box is doing something around network that DECREASE the response time.
I googled around and saw the network throttling mechanism, I tried to disable it (with a reboot), and it has no impact.
Can somebody help me by pointing me on any mechanism in Win7 that can slow down response time in the network? I know this is a setting somewhere, because launching a Virtual Box allows me to have the correct performance.
Any help will be very appreciated,
Didier
