Possible solution to network card drops

Hi folks, I have been searching these forums myself for a possible solution to my random network drops when i'm using my full bandwidth and have noticed that several of you have the same if not similar problems.

When using the troubleshooter the end result is always that my card has lost its default gateway yet is easily fixed.

The drops would only happen during times when i was maxing out my bandwidth and once fixed would either never happen till the next day or within 5 minutes.

I seem to have stumbled upon a possible fix, it certainly seems to have cured my problems so I thought i'd pass it on to you people here as these forums have been extremely helpful with the little tweaks and bugs in Win7

Hi Guys and Girls

Just wanted to drop a quick message to all of those people who are upgrading to Windows 7 RC from Windows Vista. If you find that your network connection drops and it states that your "Default Gateway was unavailable" when you run the fix this issue tool, then its more than likely that your network card is at fault. I found the best fix for this was to delete the network card from Device Manager, restart the machine and hey presto it stops dropping.

You'll find it tends to drop when you attempt a high bandwidth activity like streaming media from websites. It was very annoying but fortunately deleting the NIC seemed to resolve it.

Just wanted to pass it on!

My motherboard has an Nvidia nForce 6 series chipset and an Nvidia nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet onboard port (times two)

Hey DarkMatter welcome to Win7Forums. I was having this same issue when I used utorrent on my WLAN connection but after build 7201 it stopped or I haven't noticed it happen again. I think people were also commenting on that on 7232 and after the network connectivity issues were resolved (but I am not sure if this partitcualr issue was resolved)....hope this helps!

EDIT: The reason the first guys tip worked is because it seems that he had just a driver related issue....by any chance has you installed the latest drivers for your nvidia chipset from nvidia? (remember that you can run the vista drivers (x86/x64) on 7 (run them in vista compatibility mode if necessary)

The only thing I could think of to do finally is to either update from the RC to 7264 (or the RTM its coming soon) or wait for nvidia to release drivers made specifically for Win7 (if they haven't already....and a BETA driver doesn't count)

I know you're trying to be helpful here but when I said i've tried everything i have ;D including the win7 drivers for nvidia nForce as found here nForce Driver ;D so yeah looks like i'll be waiting for the RTM which will be out soon anyway :) like i said though limiting my download speed has solved it and i dont have to limit it that much so its bearable, thanks for the help though guys but i'm one of those that means what he says

I always do....and I checked that driver....it surprises me that they have a non-beta driver out for Windows 7 considering it isn't RTM yet...Maybe that partnership between nvidia and Microsoft lets them have exclusive first access to gold code....or there just really sure it will work
