Windows 7: Network Annoyance

Network Annoyance

I have a new laptop with windows 7. At home i operate a wireless network with static ip and no DHCP. I also go to QUT and use there public network, which, operates solely on DHCP. I currently use IP-Switcher to switch back between networks and that is fine, works perfectly. Problem is that, for some reason, my Router (at home) is picking up my computer's lease as using DHCP (when it does so, it kills my internet). This occurs pretty much everytime I restart my computer, even with the TCP/IP settings on my home networks version.

So, There is my predicament. Please, any assistance is Muchly appreciated.

I understand in Linksys Routers... there is such thing as a STATIC DHCP... so your computer will still be on obtain IP automatically but your router will associate your MAC address with a IP you specify.

So when your MAC address for your wireless or wired is seen by the router, the router will automatically reserve that particular IP for your computer.

I think they call it DHCP reserve.

that way you dont have to use IP switch and should fix your problem.

that is one solution.....

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Thankyou, But how would I go about doing this? I have a belkin router, but it is run by my father. and I am not able to change settings and what not. so understandably he is a bit frustrated when he has to reset the router each time I use my computer... If at all possible I need a solution on this computer, rather than the network.
Again, Thankyou.

IE8 Annoyance
Hi, Over the lasy day or so, I've noticed this error pop-up, everytime I open up IE8 (32 or 64 bit versions) the first time, after a reboot only (it opens without the message if I close and open it without rebooting). I've not changed anything I'm aware of, and besides the annoyance...

Mouse Over Annoyance
Don't know if this is just me or if it's a specific Windows 7 issue. Navigating through Explorer sometimes you need to find out some information about a file. Hover your mouse over the file and you get information. I was looking to see if any of the tracks on an album were larger than expected...
