File Sharing Help

Hey forum!

Just a couple of quick questions.

I have recently set up a new File Server, Running Windows 7 Professional X64
Specs:
Intel E1400
Asus P5KPL/1600
8X WD 2TB Green

Now,
I am trying to Share the HDDs,
i Do not wish to share each Folder Seperatly, as i have the hdds set up,
so that one drive is media, and one is ISOs etc,
now when i share the HDD, by right clicking properties, advanced sharing, i set it so that inheritable rights are enabled.
But the problem is that it will only inherit the rights for about 3 directories deep.

Anyone know how to easily set it up so that it inherits the rights all the way down?

I previously had Server 2008 on the PC, except to run mediaportal server, I had to either edit a lot of files, and install lots of software, or run it in a VM, which i tried, but did not like, so went over to WIN7.

Any help with the permissions, would be highly appreciated.

Thank you,
Braydon.

If you still want to share the root directly, please disable the sharing and reconfigure the sharing according the steps of the section “Administrative Shares and Sharing the Root of a Drive”. After the steps, please also go to the partition’s Properties, check both Sharing and Security settings, and make sure that you have assigned the “Full-Control” permissions to "Everyone”.
You should be aware there are inherent risks with sharing the root of a drive, I assume this is quite commonsense but felt compelled to state so anyhow.

I'm guessing you are talking security risks?
If so, I am not using the everyone group, but rather local accounts that I have created.
And with what you quoted, Where is that from?

Thanks,

and yes, I was referring to security risks, you could mostly negate it simply by blocking wan access for those machines via the router though.

Hmm I would rather leave wan access on, as it is sometimes used as a private game server. I guess I could just chuck a good firewall on there and lock it down tightly...

Problem with file copying adversely affecting media/file sharing & WMC
WMC recording/playback and media/file sharing seems to work fine until I go to copy a file between drives, where one of those drives is currently using some of its i/o bandwidth to do media. The copy hogs the i/o bandwidth, doing nasty things to the real-time needs. How do I permanently tell...
