In you first post, you say you have cable internet, that would imply that you have an internet service provider, and you plug a cable into your laptop to get online...that cable would connect to a cable modem, dsl modem or router attached to one of those...some modems are wireless capable, others have to be connected to a wireless router...does your laptop wireless show any available networks?
Now that's the problem. That modem is is like a huge metal box hanging inside the apartment's wall. From there, the cable comes all the way to my apartment chamber. So will that cause any trouble?

Are you saying that you're computer is connected via phone line instead of ethernet?

Ok, as suggested you need to access http://192.168.0.1 and enter your username and password (which is in the router documentation). From there you can define the SSID, wireless broadcast and WPK key.

to go that site (192.168.1.1) do I need to connect my wireless router WITH the ethernet cable in it or WITHOUT the ethernet cable? Also this wireless was set up before at my family's house.

If the router is already setup for wireless then all you need to do is unplug the ethernet cable and click the network icon

Then click the network name and then Connect. You will be asked for a WPK key.

Solved the issue. I chose No in the "Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?". I manually login to the internet service when I open the wireless. Also I used the ipconfig in cmd to see my connection's address and properties and put them during the setup.
