OK, I used a static IP, but still doesn't work.

Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

Preferred DNS Server: 172.16.153.2

Is it possible that the LAN part of the PC is physically damaged?
while your anonymity isn't as secure from a non-network intruder standpoint, you can try turning off ipv6. if you have a dynamic ip it can cause issues, try turning it off, rebooting, and turning it on, rebooting and see if that helps.
I'm not sure what you mean by getting a "live CD". I also tried turning off the IPv6 and rebooting and all that to no avail. I tried the static IP again with the changes suggested, also didn't work.
Could be a logic latch in your router. Try re-setting your router back to factory defaults and set it up from the beginning.

download a flavour of linux burn it and boot into it see if u get an IP
I wasted several days of my life with this problem, I don't think you'll solve it - looks like the microsoft solution DOESN'T work with home premium versions. Get a windows 7 compatible router/switcher which your computer will recognise.
OK, I reset-ed my modem and started over, still nothing. There seems to be a lot of Linux Live CD's. Could you point me to one that would work for me?
