    Creating a Switch

I am currently running Windows 7 on a new HP Desktop. I have a cable modem and a wireless router. When looking in the Network and Internet Conneciton and the map of the network, the new wireless HP Desktop computer has a "?" while my other desktop (device) is mapped "switch". I'm thinking that the new HP Desktop that is mapped with a "?" needs to indicate "Switch"? Any advice will be helpful. Thank you.

I'm guessing that your other machine simply isn't able to determine what the device is, due to it's being over a wireless connection and not hardwired. Provided you're able to connect to it and it can get online, I wouldn't worry terribly about the network map.

OK. Thanks. Can connect internet. I thought it might create a performance problem?

Nope. No problem with performance. Windows simply isn't having an easy time figuring out how things are laid out, but that won't hinder the functionality of the network at all, so long as it's still connected. :)
