Printing to Ubuntu USB connected printer

Currently my partner using XP can print to my Epson Stylus Photo R265 printer. This printer is connected via http://192.168.1.2:631 and will print whenever she wishes to do so. I can be working with Ubuntu and this is not a problem.

When I attempt to print from Windows 7 by adding the printer and using the same address I failed miserably to establish any connection. Fortunately I dual boot seven and Ubuntu and access from her laptop can be made as it is automatically linked to my PC. This can be a bit of a problem if I am working with Ubuntu as so far printing can only be done between both seven OS.

My preference would be to have printing available via my USB connected printer using both Ubuntu and Win7 as this will let us work in harmony.

Your assistance in this matter will be appreciated.

    hey scunnered,

I assume that you can print directly to the printer from your windows 7 machine....I am reading your post as you've USB'd the printer to your dual boot machine, so you shouldn't be connecting using the IP address...
I am also assuming that your Win7 machine shares the same IP address with your Ubuntu box.

your windows firewall maybe blocking her connecting whilst using win7. to test you could turn it off momentarily.
also I have read that there could be problems with workgroups/homegroups that are causing issues.....

    Many thanks for your reply.

I will have a look at the firewall situation and see what happens there. It would appear that what was simple with XP is now so complicated with 7.

When printing from XP it is done via a wireless connection and I similarly wish to do so from 7.

Working from Ubuntu to Windows I currently have access to XP. There have been times when the Thinkpad which is the new laptop shows up on the network but does not open. Other times it will not appear at all. I have another post seeking clarification on this problem.

Will report back once I give printing a try without the firewall.

    Again my thanks

Tried disabling firewall in seven laptop and once again no printing while connected to Ubuntu.

As I have a fair bit of use on my laptop I am very keen not to have to shut down what I am doing just to print from seven to seven. It is not very productive.

When anta remarked about my dual boot being on the same ip address I would assume so othger than the final :631 being the cups link.

So far I am suffering eye strain reading Dummies and various forums but still no further forward.

    Any assistance will be appreciated
