Do you have any Firewall or Security Software installed?

Restart your computer, Tap F8 and select Safe Mode with Networking. See if you can connect here.

Please try these recommendations:
Access Device Manager and locate Realtek Adapter. Uninstall the driver, then restart your computer. Let your Windows reinstall the Driver for you. Just in case have the Driver ready.
Run another ipconfig /all or test your connection after.

Next task to do if above recommendation is unsuccessful:
Click on Start=> All Programs => Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log press enter
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log press enter
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog press enter
Restart the computer after.

Let's pause here for now and please report back.

My problem wasn't the phone cord, or whatever that other person meant was their solution. I fixed this problem by setting the Adapter Type dropdown in the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager Settings for the VM, from the default "PCnet PCI II (AM...)" to the Intel Pro/1000 MT Desktop, since my machine uses Intel gigabit ethernet adapter.

Once I changed this VirtualBox can now access the NAT'd ethernet connection to the internet.
