Yes it's a big pain, that's why DNS was invented. I only suggested it to prove your problem is purely a DNS one. As for a real fix, I don't know as you seem to have tried the usual things. Re-reading your first post, it really has to be Windows at fault. Personally, I would back up your drive with an imaging program (I use R-Drive) then wipe the drive and install Windows 7 again - clean slate and all that.
