Networks Shares over multiple network adapters on multiple subnets

I have a pretty elaborate home network consisting of a wired gigabit ethernet primary network and a wireless-N wireless network. everything i have been able to get functioning flawlessly excluding getting the windows shares and ps3 media server i run from a wired windows 7 64-bit server to share across the wireless portion of my network. i attempted to fix this issue by purchasing a 2nd adapter for said server so that it would have both a wired and wireless connection and be able to share across both the 192.x.x.x subnet(which already works) and the 10.x.x.x subnet(which hasnt been. I now have the 2nd adapter setup without a gateway as to not confuse internet traffic going FROM said server so it will use the primary wired gigabit adapter instead of wireless. I am able to ping from the wireless side of the network back to the servers assigned wireless IP but for some reason still cannot see the shares, i have been unable to find any adapter specific share settings in win7 thus far and am wondering if i am missing something. any help is appreciated. I have a very similar scenario and I too would like to share Media Server/DLNA across multiple subnets. Have you found a solution to this?

DCHP forwarder must be turned on. you can change subnet to 255.255.0.0... what is the default gateway for both internal networks?


note: I would remove the routing on your wireless network to add simplicity but still keeping functionality unless you need added protection.

The current networks are at 255.255.255.0 subnet with one network on 192.168.1.X and the other at 192.168.2.X.

The verizon router is providing broadband connection and has public IP and devices on both networks can be reached aross both via IP but for media server or anything else they dont exist to eachother. I am attaching an image of the configuration.

I did change both subnets to 255.255.0.0 as you suggested but the only option I see on verizon actiontec MI424WR other then dhcp is called dhcp relay. Is that what I want? or should I change setting on the Belkin since that is on the side of the media server?

Are you using 2 DHCP services to provide extra private ips or to ensure seperation (like a mini dmz?)

Router to Router VPN would work for you, but this is generally only used in remote office situations not really like this. AND your router(s) might not provide you this function

Well the two routers (provided one) and my own are providing ip's in different subnets. If I remote one router then all ip's get provided by other router since the nimh device merely extends the right side of my network to another physical location.The main reason I am using the N+ Router is for wireless and the few ports to add a tv and blu-ray to the network parallel to the cisco switch.

From trying out the 255.255.0.0 subnet on all devices the routers no longer communicate with eachother at all and the internet conection was lost also. I have been reading that I need multicasting across the different subnets between the two routers but does that mean both need to multicast or can i just purchase 1 that supports multicasting? The VPN idea would probably work even though it seems crazy since the nimh already extends the network across. You are also right where I dont think my routers support that anyway...

You can attempt a crossover from router port to router port but you're still going to be slamming your head against this mutli dhcp service brick wall. You're subnets will have to be the same and your DG will have to be the same for the sharing you're requesting.

After following your suggestions, I figured that would be the case. What do you mean by DG also the same? Thank you for your help so far as as a last resort I will just reorder and remove the hardware that is preventing what I need if I cant get it to work as is.

Yes I think Ill just remove my router and run from the nimh to the switch and have router at the end out of the switch for wireless seperate from other devices. Are there any routers or other devices you can think of that may do the multicasting for shares across subnets or present another solution in case I can invest in the hardware in the future?
