Help connecting to new wireless network

    hi,
running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. i'm farley knowledgeable with computers and windows OS.

i'm having trouble trying to figure out how to connect to my new room mates wireless network. my computer was connected straight to the internet at my old house via ethernet cable. so maybe my computer's setting is set for wired internet?? i looked online for help. found that i needed to click the icon on the bottom right corner (next to clock), hit refresh and the wireless network should show up. but it doesn't.

i'm not sure whats going on... hence why i'm here.
i know this is a simple fix. i'm just over looking something.

if you have any questions, please ask.
    thanks for any help..

Hi RiverRun84, welcome to sevenforums. How are you trying to connect to your mates network?..ie Do you have a wireless card or using a USB dongle? The reason I am asking is because previuosly, you were connecting via wired ethernet and from your original post it appears hat you are now trying to connect wirelessly?

Go into the control panel, choose network and sharing, network connections and see if you even have a wireless network connection set up. This should give you some idea if you have hardware for wireless networking.

I have googled your machine and it does not come out of the box with wireless capability. You need to buy a wireless-n compatable USB adaptor(sometimes they call it a dongle instead of adaptor), OR you can buy a PCI wireless-N compatable PCI card that fits inside your computer. Then follow the manufacturers instructions carefully for installing the adaptor/card and you should be OK. Come back if you bump into any problems.
