    7 + Samba 3.5 DC = Issues


    On my computer i am currently running windows 7 pro 64bit, i'm trying to add it to the samba domain controller but i'm getting the following error.

    An error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "192.168.0.12".
    
    The error was: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
    (error code 0x0000007B ERROR_INVALID_NAME)
    
    The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.192.168.0.12

    If you don't have a domain controller on your system already, you'll get this error. The point of Samba is to help other systems talk to AD/Windows domains, if I am reading correctly.

    samba is supposed to be able to be setup as a Domain Controller it's just not working

    this sounds like a similar problem ?

    Windows 7 can see Samba Shares but cannot see Samba Domain

    there's a couple more things about this sort of thing if you google it aswell chief.

    If only it was that easy I've tried that already, unlike most "chiefs" that post on this forum I actually tried to do some research into the problem it has nothing to do with the registry stuff and that's all i've found on how to "fix" the problem
