Wireless connections drops a few seconds every now & then

    Hi

I am getting mad... any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a laptop acer 4810TZ with an intel 1000 BGN wireless adaptor. Every now & then, specially when I am using VNCViewer to connect to a remote host, the connection hangs, and the session is interrupted. Immediately after, it can be restarteD.

When I connect via wire ethernet, or via a USB wireless stick (RT73), no issues. The remote host is connected to my lan (via the ISP router).

I've tried quite some tweaks (no dhcp, no ipv6, google dns, security type from wpa tkip to aes, etc...), no joy. I've even installed in dual boot ubuntu, no issues with the adater then.

Acer does not supply any newer drivers....

A ping -t shows that once in a while, the connection goes bad, then restarts

Any clues as how to diagnose this ?

    Rgds,

    J.

Some possible causes are large distances between the laptop and the router, multiple walls and other obstacles between the laptop and the router, and other devices(cordless phone, microwave oven, etc.) using the same frequency(2.4 GHz) as the router.
The 1st 2 may be solved by installing an external antenna on the router(assuming it will accept an antenna).
The 3rd may be solved by switching the router to a 5 GHz frequency(assuming it has this capability).

    many thanks for the reply

the box & laptop are in the same room, 8 ft away, no walls. The location has not changed over a year.

As to interferences, I've changed channels & no luck

    Any other suggestion ?

    Hi
I eventually got hold of the original wireless drivers and reinstalled them, and so far so good....

Just for the fun, I'd like to highlight acer for their useless support, first suggestion was to reinstall the whole pc, and when I asked for the sepcific driver versions that came with my pc, they just pointed me out to their website, while I had explicitly told them it wasnt there....

    Regards,
