rmtshare issues on windows 7 ultimate laptop (acer aspire one d250)
help! I'm soooo confused. I'm trying to handle a lot of data, over several disks. Have a laptop on the network connected via a router, and network drives and shares have been working well in Windows 7 so far...
I've reached a point where I'd like to create shares using cmd. I found and downloaded rmtshare.exe, and after some time I managed to create some network shares (on a windows 7 desktop) using the command
rmtshare \\(computername)\(sharename)=(drive:\path) /grant (user):f /remove everyone
It works, but When I try this on my laptop (same OS) however I get "command failed error 5". The interesting thing is I can create and delete network shares on the desktop computer (DESKTOP) when at the command prompt ON THE LAPTOP (ACE), but not vice versa. rmtshare \\ACE returns the network shares, but none can be added or removed. Same user account / pwd on both machines, same OS... same workgroup now too...
So, I can create shares on the desktop computer from EITHER computer using, for example
rmtshare \\DESKTOP\moreusers=c:\users /grant zephyr:f /remove everyone
but when trying the equivalent on the laptop
rmtshare \\ACE\somemoreusers=c:\users /grant zephyr:f /remove everyone
I get the error (5)
rmtshare \\computername works on both machines when calling both machines, ie it lists all network shares, but only shares to the desktop can be created...
Sharing via explorer using properties and the sharing tab works fine on the laptop, it's only when setting up networks shares to the laptop, from either the laptop or the desktop where I run into this issue.
Weird? Anyone any ideas? Hope this makes sense, and thanks for any suggestions or advice.
THANKS, Jonny
