Windows 7: Proxy/DNS Server Not Responding

Proxy/DNS Server Not Responding

I think I may be dealing with two separate issues here, but let me just tell you what's going on:

When trying to connect to the internet through both a wireless router and my local area connection, my browsers give me error saying, "X is trying to connect using a proxy server that is not responding."

When I troubleshoot either of these connections, it tells me the DNS server is not responding.

My roommate's computer, also a brand-new Windows 7 laptop, is also unable to connect, as is my Android phone. My dad is also having a similar problem with his connections, though when he resets the modem it will resolve the problem for a day or two.

I have tried:
Rebooting computer, modem and wireless router
Reconfiguring the wireless router
Defining the DNS address to OpenDNS addresses and Google DNS addresses
Returning the DNS to be found automatically
Disabling/enabling both internet connections
Releasing and renewing my IP address
Talking directly with my ISP support
And countless other Googled remedies.

I would think it was only a problem with the modem - however, when my computer is connected to a new wireless network somewhere else, it still returns the same proxy error.

Am I dealing with two issues here? If so, how do I fix them?

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Are you using a wireless and ethernet connection at the same time?

If so, that could be the root of your problem and you should consider disconnecting your ethernet network adapter and just use the wireless connection.

No, I am not using them at the same time... I have internet through Time Warner Cable's Road Runner and they require use of their modem. If I plug the ethernet cable directly from the modem into my computer, I still have the same problem as when the modem is connected to the wireless router. But I'm not trying to use both at the same time.

Remove the proxy server entries in IE. Tools/Options/Connections/Lan Settings - uncheck the proxy server.
