    Random computer freezes whilst downloading

    Hi all,

I am currently using Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit edition and just recently whenever I am downloading anything my computer will freeze for around 2 seconds and the download connection will restart to 0.00mb/s then start to connect back up to its full speed again.

This happens I'd say around every 15 minutes and has started to become very annoying as you can imagine as a large file can take hours to download when it should only take half the time.

    I'd really appreciate any advice.

    Thanks a lot

Does it freeze only when downloading or have you noticed freezing while doing other things?

    Well Swifty,

There are several possible causes of your problem and to make educated recommendations we need your system specs.

    UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS

User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |

in left-hand column, under Your Profile, Edit System Spec |

using Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and SIW to gather info, fill in the blanks.
Do me a favor and add the word laptop or desktop to the “system manufacturer” block.
Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

    ============================

In the meantime, run the cleaner and registry portions of CCleaner (link in my sig). Don't worry your computer won't crash and burn but will rather run better.

    Hi again,

Sorry for the late reply. I have used the tools advised and updated my profile.

Yes it only seems to do this when I am downloading.

Something which I forgotten to mention is that every 4 or 5 times it does randomly freeze, the screen will go black for about 2 seconds and then a message will popup in the system tray saying something like, 'The kernal drivers 270.61 have stopped responding.

    Thanks

Message in event logs is -

If following measures do not solve the problem, then go the Crash and BSOD forum, follow their posting procedures and see what they suggest.

    Run System File Checker (SFC)
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Run CCleaner (link in my sig)
