Turn a normal router into a powerful router

I didn't really know where to put this, but some of you may not be familiar with DD-WRT.

This article will prick your interest if your interesting in turning a garden-variety router into a powerful tool.

This is a great article, and DD-WRT has been out for a while. However, unless you know what you are doing, and need the additional features that DD-WRT/OpenWRT/Tomato (the last two are variants of DD-WRT), a normal user should not need the additional features that DD-WRT provides.

You can brick (render unusuable) a router doing the upgrades mentioned in the article.

Simple Tomato Firmware Install On Asus RT-N16 Router | Random Stuff

If anyone was wondering, I used this for my asus router and I've never managed to brick it during the set up. On another forum, someone said asus routers are hard to brick. Either way, if you ever do plan to use such firmware, read as much info as you can before doing the procedure. And yes, there are a lot of other features but the reason why I chose tomato usb is I was getting tired of going through routers that didn't last long and gave it a shot with tomato.
