Browsers Slow, Torrent speed fine.

Hi All,

I have just upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate x64, I had no problems installing Win 7 (fresh Install) The computer is a I5 2500k, Asus P8P67 m/b, GTX 560ti GPU, 8g ram, OCZ 120gb ssd, I haven't connected the 2 tb storage just yet, Not sure if you need that info or not.

The Problems seems to be that the Browsers are very slow or may not even load a page. I loaded Utorrent to see if the connection was dropping in and out but while downloading it stays at a steady rate. Which would rule out the Connection to the internet I would assume.

1. I have turned of anti virus still the same.
2, I have turned of firewall and still the same
3. shot myself and it still the same
4. turned of Microsoft Security Essentials still the same
5. Also done a fresh install of windows just to make sure
6. Was connected to a server, but i have bypassed that, Now connected straight to the modem/router.

My Dad is waiting for me to set his new machine up so he can continue playing online games so we would be both grateful for any help. Im going crazy at the moment cause it has to be something simple that I'm over looking.

I am also using the same connection with another machine and have no issues at all. So It would be the Win 7 64 machine that has an issue. I use the same CAT 5 and just pull it out of one and put it in the other.

The results from pinging Google. I also have done this on the other machine and it came back fine every time i tried.

Hello Torso, welcome to the forum. I understand your Dad is in a hurry and you probably can't do much of anything anymore if action nr 3 really worked... but please don't start new/repreat threads with the same issue. Someone... me for instance, was really going to look at your first posts...

Can you specify which browser(s) you've tried. And what is your internet (adsl/cable) speed?
Are all above pings from this same machine?

+ the fact that are using the same CAT could be part of the problem.... sounds as extra but try again but this time be sure to have rebooted the system after plugging the lan in. To force DHCP network settings....

Sorry For double posting but thought it may have been in the wrong place.

I have tried booting after plugging in the cat cable. Just tried again.

All ping tests are from the one machine with the attitude problem.

Browsers i have tried IE FF and Chrome.

Internet speed is from the speakeasy speed test site. I live in Australia.
Download Speed: 10044 kbps (1255.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 632 kbps (79 KB/sec transfer rate)

I'm going to look at installing a x86 version of win 7 that i have on the machine I am using now and see what happens. see if the problems go away.

OK i think it may be more a Faulty Lan port. Changed to win 7 x86 and still the same issues, all the ping tests and the tracert come back with request time outs in them. When i do this from my machine there are no issues at all.

On your modem/router, if there is an option for QoS, turn that on.

Check with your ISP, and ensure you haven't gone over your internet plan's limit.
If you have, its probable that they've throttled your speed down.
They usually do this for general web traffic (port 80), which is why uTorrent and pings are returning as expected results.

Hi Xarden, wouldn't his second PC also have a speed problem if it was a throttle issue....

Hello,

Do you have the latest driver for your network adapter?

Is there a separate Modem that you can plug your computer directly so that you can test the connection? or is this a combo Modem/Router?

Can you pls. post an ipconfig /all output for review?
Make sure that your DNS setting on 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.

Have you scanned your computer using any Anti-Malware Software? I use Free Malwarebytes.

Please let us know.

I have just installed a USB wireless card and have no issues at all, So my conclusion is a faulty Motherboard lan port. not sure what else it could be. Now to pull it out and send it away.

latest drivers had been installed.

No issue with the modem/router as all other machines are functioning as normal

No virus or malware unless you classify windows as a virus, fresh install no other programs have been loaded.

That's good... but keep in mind that installing the wireless also means that that (for that wireless) you set up a new and clean network connection. That worked. Before replacing the wired hardware, I'd force a renewal there too and test that....
