Windows 7: 2 PC's crossover ethernet cable problem

If the cable is installed, and both adapters are set to obtain a DHCP address automatically (which is default) Windows will pull an APIPA address like 169.254.x.x on each machine. Thus, the 2 machines together would be able to communicate over this network.

OK, I'll take your word on that. I've never tried to do it myself, but I've seen countless threads on various forums where people have tried and it seemed to be a major pain to get it working. I know enough about networking to get buy but I'm no IT pro so I'll pass to the more experienced.

I'll understand if you don't want to mes with it though, now that its working.
Quick way to test it would be to copy a large file and see how fast it is transferring at.
