I can't give you the exact model number of the Westell DSL modem that caused the problem. Unfortunately, it is long gone. Just try substituting a different DSL modem to see if that resolves the issue.

If DSL modem substitution is not possible, try taking your computer to a location which has a different internet access (e.g., cable or FiOS). If you have no problem there and you continue to have a problem using the Westell DSL modem, it's your culprit.

You know, I'm not sure. It is/was connected to my Dad's machine. He did get a new DSL modem (I have no idea about the model) and now it is working.

If you can, try to get a new modem and see if that fixes your problem.

I just took the computer over to another house with time warner cable with a netgear modem, and it worked perfectly fine. Took it back home to the verizon DSL with the old westell 327W modem and it went blank again.

I think we just stumbled onto something and confirmed that it is indeed a modem problem.

Thank you all for your replies, I've been going crazy the past week.

    P.S

If possible could you get me the model # of that modem for the actiontech, or the model number of your dads modem XD

It's the Actiontec Ethernet DSL Modem GT701D, currently sold by MicroCenter for the outrageously high but very much worth it price of ~$55 because they solved the problem. They deserve some love!

BTW, it includes DHCP and NAT; so you could just connect a computer, a switch, a wireless access point or a WAP that includes a switch and run with it. No additional router needed. However, I've got it connected to a DLink DGL4100 GigE router in one location (the one that was wonky with the Westell DSL modem) and, now, a new NetGear WNDR3700 at home.

Ah, thank you for the info

However there is no microcenter around my way and they do not ship either =(

I will probably pick something up from newegg. I assume all newer models than the GT701D would be sufficient. However I don't know how to tell which is newer/older XD

I am experiencing this same exact problem. I can only connect through IE9 and Firefox to Google sites and nothing else. I have just bought a brand new computer and been messing with this problem for a week now. After Verizon convinced me it was my computer, I took it back to the store. They connected it to they're ISP (Comcast High Speed) and it worked flawlessly. I have talked to Verizon 5 times about this issue. I finally told them I think it's my modem (Westell 6100) that's not talking well with Windows 7. They are sending me a Westell 6100G. Hopefully, since it's a 'newer model', it will work. If not, I have no idea what to do. Can you buy a different DSL Modem at the store that will connect to Verizon Network if the Westell 6100G doesn't work?

hey there dmv. i switched from verizon dsl (modem: westell 327W) to time warner cable with some random stock RCA brand modem and it works flawlessly now. i suppose the old modem just couldn't keep up with the new technology, though I cant be too certain, but whatever the problem was, it was solved with a new modem.

I don't believe it is a windows 7 problem. I believe the problem lies within the new LGA1155 sandy bridge issue. If you could list your hardware, we can confirm that it is in fact a LGA1155 socket build issue. Because I had several builds in between consisting of LGA775, LGA1366, and AM2+/AM3 and it worked perfectly fine.

I (believe) you can pick up any arbitrary modem and use it as your new main modem, but your provider would have to provide you with some information for you to "activate" it... I'm not too sure how it works. You can always contact your provider and ask.

Hi aLife! Did you switch from a dsl modem to a cable highspeed modem? Or is Time Warner Cable your phone company also?

I did list my system hardware. It's in the 'My System Specs' drop down. My new processor is a Intel® Core™ i5-2500K Processor (6M Cache, 3.30 GHz). It does have the new Sandy Bridge technology. I did a google search 'Westell 6100 connection issues Intel i5 Sandy Bridge' but didn't find anything.

I'm afraid my last resort is to drop Verizon DSL all together and sign up with Comcast High-Speed internet if this new modem doesn't work. I just hope that verizon doesn't freak when I tell them I'm dumping them because they aren't compatible with my new system. If memory serves me right, I 'signed' a 1yr $24.99/mo '768kb down' contract.

Time Warner is just for my highspeed internet, verizon is still my current phone company. Yes, I know the feeling... I paid $25/month for DSL as well, and it jumped to $30/month for Cable for the 1st year, and $50/month after that...

Hopefully you're still not under the one year contract or else you may have to pay a early contract cancellation fee if it does boil down to it..

Did you ever try a different DSL Modem other then the Westell 327W? Or did you just bail as soon as you found out your new system works on a cable internet connection.

They're sending me a new Westell 6100G Modem. I should be getting it tomorrow. I have my doubts that there will be a different outcome then with the Westell 6100 Modem.
