Can't connect to samba share via name; ip works

I'm unable to connect to a samba share on a FreeBSD (via FreeNAS) box when using the machine name.

The message it gives me is "The account is not authorized to log in from this station".

The share is in anonymous mode; there's on restrictions.

If I try to connect to the same share via it's IP, things work.

Connecting via name worked previously on this same machine from XP and after I first installed Win7.

I can also connect to it via a Popcorn Hour machine.

    Any ideas?

    7100.

I tried changing the NTLM/NTLM2 authentication down, but that doesn't seem to do anything.

I figured out that if I map a network drive and provide some credentials (completely invalid works) I can connect.

That doesn't really work, as I've got a service that runs that needs to connect to it.

wild guess - do you have the online ID (windows live ID) component (for remote media streaming) installed? if you do, try uninstalling it... and see if this works.

Thanks for the help guys as well. Installed Windows 7 RC build a couple of days ago and had this same exact issue with my NAS at home. Wonder if this is a known issue?

I have the same issue, network error 1208 is what I get when clicking on the storage in network. I can only access the NAS through mapping the folders within it. I Have no live id ? Can you explain what to do as I do not understand the answer. Thank you.

Another reason MS will struggle to shove Live down peoples throats... Granted any home user needing to connect to Samba shares is in the minority of the userbase, but still. It would be nice if everything worked without these oddball compatibility issues. This will probably be put near the end of the to-do list before launch.

This is good to know because I'm considering moving my Media Center to a Linux distro because I don't want to pay for new hardware to play back videos. Thanks for the insight.
