Wireless Settings

Hi all, I just recently bought a wireless router and atm I got a few questions that I cant find on google, I guess I am just really bad at using google, anyway the router got both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz but I got nothing atm that can connect or handle the 5Ghz connection so I am wondering if I benefit from turning it off since I cant use it, or does it help the 2.4Ghz band in anyway with speed/strenght in signal?

And then my second question is there is suppose be a program that I can use to find out what other wireless routers that are around me and what channels they are using etc, but I do not remember the name of it and ya google is not helping me so does anyone know what program I am talking about?

Thx in advance
Andreas

First: There is no benefit in leaving the 5Ghz band broadcasting if nothing is connecting to it.
Second: inSSIDer by MetaGeek is a fantastic tool to see what else is broadcasting wifi around you. It will tell you what channel they use (so you can adjust accordingly), as well as a wealth of other information. Highly recommend it.

There are a number of utilities and corresponding websites that do the same thing as inSSIDer, that one is just my favourite. As far as wireless settings I would consult either the guide that came with your router or the manufacturer's website. Either one will be able to tell you all the ins-and-outs of your router.
