Run batch file when network computer is detected

I'm looking for a way to have a batch file run when a network computer is detected.

My laptop is often times inaccessible to my desktop unless I ping it first.
So I've created a batch file to ping the laptop but now I need to find a way to have it run when the laptop is detected on my local network.

Is there a way to do this through a windows event or any way at all?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are applications that can scan a network for a MAC address, but I don't know if any of them support trigger actions when one is found.

I would instead concentrate on fixing the inaccessibility issue. It sounds like the adapter is turning off when the laptop sleeps or after a period of inactivity. That's pretty easy to fix - check your power settings on the NIC and deselect the power saving option.

    Thanks for the reply.

I turned off the power saving feature as you suggested and will post back if the problem persists.
