    Workgroup VS Home Server 2008

So basically I need a little clarification. I want the know differences between homegroup networking on windows 7 ultimate VS Windows server 2008. I have two computers at home running xp and the other running windows 7. They are both on my homegroup so we can all transfer files. What I want to do is I want to install a 500gb HDD on one of the computers and make the drive our media source. I want to install home server on a partition on my primary computer if I go that route. But is that worth it?

Homegroup allows for sharing, server allows for sharing and having more than one user open the same file.
