Windows 7: Win7 can't access Vista Biz on Workgroup

Those drive tests should have been complete by this morning, but I accidentally put the machine in a sleep-enabled power mode last night!

But today, the Win7 box appeared again on its own Network - which is kind of nice. I had made no changes.

Then after rebooting Win7, the Vista box demanded that I sign in to access Win7. No log in was accepted. On reboot, Vista let me in without a log in.

Who is sufficient for these things? I deleted the user accounts cloned across the network, and will just go with full-bore sharing for now.

That NAS is an interesting proposition. It would mean duplicating shared files, or uploading them from the start, but from looking at the manual it appears that selective sharing can be done even on a workgroup. That would be somewhat of a solution here, plus one gets a printer server thrown in in the bargain.

I use NAS's at work and home for backup and file sharing purpose. No need to do the tedious workgroup and file sharing if you decide to go the NAS route.

When you first setup the NAS, plug it in to a router or a network switch using a patch network cable, install the software from any computers in your network, it will automatically detect the IP range in your network and with the Buffalo it will manually assigned an IP which is pretty neat. Open up and web browser to access the NAS thru IP Address. Then setup the UserName and Password from the NAS web interface, you have to match the same UserName and Passwork from the computers in your network and that is it. You may drag and drop files, share some videos as well. You are aware that you may access your files outside your network as well.
Print Server will come very handy, oh...dont' forget FTP server as well.

Will definitely keep this idea in mind.
