I want to map drives on a Win 2k server box from the Win 7 box.
1) I cant see a way to match the workgroup name with the other machines on the network.
2) It sees the Win XP laptop but not the 2K server.
3) Suggest the help files be updated :)
Instead of using the HomeGroup, I used the work setup for like a business network. I can see 4 other computers in my house on the network. But none of them are running 2000, it's been some time since I have had a 2000 computer connected to my network. I had to click & change settings in Win7 so the other computers could see & share with the Win7 computer. It was a lot of trial & error!
Correct - Homegroups *require* that other machines connecting to the Homegroup *also* be running W7.
In XP, I'd click tools/map drive.
Can this be done in W7?
Sooo.. No one can tell me if W7 can attach to a win2k drive?
Ok. I searched outside of the forum and found that clicking start/computer will allow access to Win2k drives. Just match the username and passwords and your in.
I opened windows explorer, then clicked Share with, then Specific People, then left the prompt box blank, then clicked the button at the bottom with the little blue & yellow shield that said Share, then it worked for all computers on my network.
I am having the exact same problem. My Win7 box can connect to WinXP but it will not connect to my Win2k box. It will prompt me for a username and password but it never accepts anything.
In Win7 when i go to access the shared folder it says domain "xxxxx" under the login screen. What does this mean? Perhaps this is causing the problem.
I am not on a domain, all the same workgroup.

foxballz, your problem is probably caused by NT Lan Manager authentication level.
open Local Security Policy under Administrative Tools.
Navigate down the tree: Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options
Find: Network Security:LAN Manager authentication level
Set To: Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated

I wasn't sure which computer to change it on so I did both the Win2k server and Win 7 client. Windows 7 did not have any authentication scheme identified. Win2k had the one you mentioned.
