Homegroups between VMWare and laptop
I have one laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit. In this laptop I have setup a VMware virtual PC with Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (32bits). The laptop is connected to an AVM Fritz box (router-modem) that runs the DHCP. Both the laptop and the virtual pc are on the same network and subnet with the same gateway and belong to the same workgroup HOME.
The problem:
When I try to join a homegroup from the virtual PC it does not show me the Homegroup of the laptop, instead it prompts me to create a new homegroup. I create a new homegroup with the name HOME (same as the laptop homegoup name). After that the two computers, the laptop and the virtual PC in the laptop do not communicate with each other in the network. Therefore I conclude that somehow there are two different homegroups with the same name, one in the laptop and the other one in the virtual PC.
Any ideas how to fix this problem? i.e. to make the two computers belong to the same homegroup and communicate with each other?. In the past I had managed this functionality without any problems and without doing anything special. So obviously something has gone wrong in the setup of my computers. BTW if there are multiple homegroups in the same network, how do you view them and decide which one to join?
