Windows 7 will see wired network but won't connect

Hi,
I'm trying to connect a PC running Windows 7 HP 64bit (Intel i3 3.3Ghz Quad core, 3GB RAM) to a wired network at work. All the computers here are wirelessly connected to the internet but hardwired into a central network/server that has all the files etc on it.
The server is running Windows Server 2000 I think, the old computer I am replacing is running XP and that connects to both networks without a problem. The new Windows 7 one will connect to the wireless network fine, the wired network shows up but in properties it says "No internet access" and "No network access" and I can't access anything on it.
I've tried several solutions from looking around the net but nothing has worked.
Any ideas as to why it won't work? By all accounts networking is supposed to be easy on Windows 7, I'm certainly not finding that!
If you need more details I'll try to provide them but at the moment the new PC isn't set up because we needed the old put back to do work.

As far as I'm aware, you can't connect to a domain using Windows 7 Home Premium, you need to be using Windows 7 Professional upwards.

You could, if you wish, upgrade to Win 7 Pro by using the Windows Anytime Upgrade route.

All you need to do is buy the upgrade product key from Microsoft or a Microsoft retailer. The upgrade completes from around ten minutes, depending how many updates you need to install first.

Seriously? I can't connect to another computer through a wired network on Home Premium?? Even though I can do it wirelessly?

We use passwords on the other computers to login but that's all, the wired network isn't password protected.

Is there any other way I can set things up so it would work?

If the computers are on a domain you can't use Home Premium, and even on a home network I believe the maximum number of computers you can have with HP is five.

Upgrading to Win 7 Professional will be the quickest way out of your dilemma. Tell your boss you found the solution - he'll love you for it and perhaps give you a raise. :)

haha well I only work here on and off so that won't happen.
He's agreed to upgrade though so all the PCs will be running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit soon, although 2 of them also need more RAM first so need to get that OK'ed too.
