    Cannot locate network printer.

I recently transfered all my programs/data from Xp to new Win7 Prof 64bit computer. I can not install my canon ir2016. It can not be found on the network. All other networked computers can be found. Even connected with USB the printer can not be found. The settings on printer are set to auto assign ip, and it does get an ip, and the default gateway etc is all correct. Even if I install the drivers and manually install to ip address of printer it still does not find it. I downloaded ipscan and it does not find the ip address assigned to the printer either. I have had the computer tech here and we assigned an ip 192.168.1.254 to the printer and manually set it up and it still can not find the printer! Can anyone shed some light please.

Well for one if you want to network the printer, you need to hook it up via CAT5 cable first and change ip. If you've already done that make sure the address range you're using is in the valid range of the modem/router. You said its ip is 192.168.1.254, make sure the network has the same range i.e. 192.168.1.x. Also, make sure the subnet masks are the same though I guess the default is being used.

Also, if you manually assign ip, turn off dhcp on the router.

Thank you for your input. I bought a new cable, turned off printer and modem/router, plugged in and turned both on again. Turned off firewall and tried to add printer. It still can not be found. IP scan still does not find the printer. Very weird. Canon assures me it is a network problem and I'm beginning to think the network card on the printer might be faulty??. (This Canon ir2016 is a multifunction laser, print, fax, scan etc.) I've wasted a whole week trying everything so I think I will just have to get Canon to come and look. Thanks again for help.

    Solved

I have now fixed the problem. I plugged in an old modem and it found the printer! All installed and working well. Not sure why the newer modem would not find the printer. I had even installed a firmware update and it found everything else on the network!! Anyway, happy now.
